MUSIC lovers were treated to a feast for the ears and eyes at the Tamborine Mountain Orchestra’s Winter’s Serenade Music to Warm the Heart.
The sold-out concert showcased everything from Vivaldi to Madonna and even Led Zeppelin, with local musicians Forbes McKail providing the vocals and Ludek Nemecek on guitar for Zeppelin’s Kashmir.
Jamie Lee Wilson’s rendition of the classic Feeling Good was breathtaking.
The highlight of the concert was the performance by Tamborine Mountain Dance Academy.
The students wowed the audience performing to Gustav Holst’s The Perfect Fool ballet music.
Blending classical ballet and contemporary dance, the piece told the story of a sorcerer who summons and dances with the elemental spirits of earth, water, and fire.
“This collaboration offered a rare and valuable opportunity for our dancers to perform with a live orchestra—a rewarding but demanding experience that requires adaptability to shifting tempos and dynamics, unlike the predictability of a pre-recorded track,” TMDA principal Poppy-Jane Todd said.
After rehearsing the piece for months, several of the students were struck down with illness, including the lead performer, Ronald Bodak.
Twelve-year-old Jennifer Smith seamlessly stepped in to fill his part at the last minute, amazing the audience with her technique and lightness.
Collaborating with Tamborine Mountain Dance Academy opened up the afternoon to a whole new audience, who will be eagerly awaiting the orchestra’s next performances on August 21 with the Southern Cross Soloists and September 14.
