Around 80 women and children gathered for a belated International Women’s Event hosted by Erica Bartle at the Furness residence.
Cyclone Alfred may have delayed the event, but everyone was keen to come together and celebrate.
The high tea raised and impressive $4,500 for the charity Women are Gold, which strives to prevent trafficking of women and children in Cambodia by providing them with education and opportunities for a brighter future.
Erica said she chose the Women are Gold charity because she’d always been driven to further the potential of women and girls, with a particular focus on education.
“Women are Gold is meeting the immediate needs of underprivileged girls in Cambodia whose educational and life potential would be severely limited without the charity’s support,” she explained.
“They are very genuine in their commitment to nurturing the girls in an holistic way. It’s these charities with boots on the ground and a deep understanding of localised situations, who can deliver positive outcomes in a tangible fashion and we can help them achieve this with our support.”
She said since COVID many international charities and NGOs have struggled financially and helping, even on a small scale enables them to continue to carry out their work.
There was much excitement in the room when the auction began and bidding was fierce for some incredible prizes, including an Outland Denim voucher, a spa voucher from the new SOL Elements at Tamborine Mountain Glades, bottles of champagne and a beautiful painting featuring the thumb prints from some of the Cambodian women supported by the charity.
