ROSE Nairn’s generosity of spirit has been on show since she was a child.
She has lived to help others and through the years has reached out to individuals and groups seeking to assist them in any way she could.
Although she has never looked for a reward or recognition she said she was extremely grateful to be named as a recipient of an OAM in the latest King’s Birthday Honours list.
The wife of the late Federal Member for Eden Monaro, Gary Nairn, moved to Tamborine Village with him just a few years ago.
Gary was fighting cancer at that time and passed away last year.
“He actually put forward my name for an award and until he started noting my volunteering activity I didn’t realise I had done so much,” Rose said.
“It is just the way I have always been, I love helping individuals in need and not for profit organisations.
“During Gary’s battle I stepped back a little from my volunteering, but I hope to connect with community groups in this area in the near future.”
Rose utilised her expert knowledge from many years in the bank to assist many organisations in the Canberra and South Coast regions while Gary was representing the area.
She freely gave her time to groups such as Lifeline, the Salvation Army and Aboriginal health services for more than 20 years.
