Green Tree Snake –Dendrelaphis punctulatus, house, Eagle Heights.
I photographed the snake sunning itself on a house roof in mid-March 2025.
It was quite a large specimen, perhaps one metre 80cm long.
The species can grow to a length of two metre.
It is found in a variety of habitats ranging from rainforest to woodland to urban areas where it preys on fish, frogs, and other small animals.
The snake is non-venomous and relies on its sharp, angled teeth to ‘chew’ its prey down the esophagus.
It occurs in northern and eastern coastal areas of Australia and in Papua New Guinea.
