MORIARTY Park will host a community day of cricket and family activities on Saturday, 13 September, with organisers encouraging locals of all ages to get involved.
The event, running from 10am to 1pm, is being coordinated by the Tamborine Mountain Canungra Bushrats in partnership with Cricket Queensland.
It will feature a cricket skills clinic, a mini match, merchandise, and a sign-on opportunity for the upcoming season.
Moriarty Park Secretary Rickie Glocker said the day was designed to bring the sport closer to the community at the start of the cricket season.
“It’s a sign-on day where kids can test their skills, learn ball techniques, and get involved in cricket,” she said.
“We’ll have parents and kids playing against each other in a fun match, which is a great way to showcase the sport and build connections.”
While the sign-on is open to all grades, the Bushrats are especially hoping to attract more junior cricketers.
“Over the years, interest in the junior side hasn’t been as strong, so we’re really trying to build that back up,” Rickie said.
Beyond cricket, the day will include a high tea, raffles, trivia, and music, with proceeds going toward facility upgrades at Moriarty Park, including improvements to nets and fields.
After the skills and match day event, a market called ‘Spring Fling’ will continue into the evening with stalls, food trucks, drinks and entertainment starting from 2pm.
“The funds raised from the market will go to supporting the Canungra Social Swim Club,” Ms Glocker said.
“That’s why we’re calling it the Spring Fling – a celebration of summer sports coming in.”
