Be prepared: Bushfire season is approaching and residents are encouraged to reduce the fuel load on their properties where possible. Many properties still have a large amount of dry vegetation on site as a result of the tornado, and gutters need to be cleaned which will lessen the chances of embers igniting dry leaves and also improve the quality of tank water collected from rooves.

Out and about: The car shows held at the Long Road Sports Complex and the Tamborine Mountain Showgrounds (porsches) on 04 August were very well supported by both exhibitors, sponsors and enthusiasts. Thankyou to the organisers who made these events possible and contributed to the diversity of activities the Mountain has to offer.

Have your say: Community input will help drive region’s transport plan which covers not only our road network but also walking paths, cycling routes and transport connections. The Walking Network Plans for the Integrated Transport Planning are 50 per cent funded by the Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland as part of the Walking Local Government Grant Scheme. You can provide your feed back either online via Let’s Talk Scenic Rim or at the Tamborine Mountain ITP Drop in Session, Tamborine Mountain State School Markets on 25 August 2024 between 9.00am and 11.00am.

Advertising signage without a permit: The trailer parked roadside near the IGA – supposedly because it had a “tyre problem” – was a police matter under TRAFFIC REGULATION 1962 – REG 126. Fortunately, “trailer man” left his rego plate on the trailer. The signs now appearing regularly advertising roof repainting and bitumen driveways – and, more recently by the multi-talented person who can do both! – require an approval from Council. These signs do not pass the requirements of Council’s Local Law No. 1 in that they do not contain the name and address of the sign installer nor of the business being advertised. Stiff penalties apply and Council has the power to remove signs and recover costs, however as the “business” operators cannot be identified, this is proving difficult. If anyone sees the fly-by-night installers and captures a vehicle registration number, please let me know.

Dangerous dogs: In the past 12 months, three dogs have been declared dangerous or menacing on the Mountain and many verbal warnings have also been issued. Changes to the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 which came into effect on 18 April 2024 enable the fast-tracking of decisions and appeals on the future of seized dangerous animals as well as significantly increased fines and the banning of 5 breeds. Please report any attacks or threatening behaviour of dogs (or their owners) to Council on 55405111.
