Concerns – Thankyou to those who have raised concerns re the advertised sale of 4 acre lots for “tiny homes” on 250 acres on Kaiser Rd. There are NO applications let alone approvals for this type of development. Anyone considering entering into a contract is advised to contact Council prior to doing so.
Development application – likely to be considered at Council’s Ordinary Meeting on 25 September 2024 – MCU23/143 – Utility Installation 45-63 Hartley Rd. Water extraction for “local supply”. The community is divided on this one, with locals expressing concerns re the increased number of truck movements proposed on what is already a heavily trafficked narrow road, proximity to the other approved large-scale commercial groundwater extraction activities, safety concerns re high school pick-ups and drop-offs, and environmental impacts. Penalty Infringement Notices – businesses which commence operation with no approvals. I am working on this one. Why should unapproved commercial activities have a competitive advantage over those that do the right thing?
Out and about – a busy fortnight locally. Congratulations to the Tamborine Mountain College for its ArtsFest which showcased creative talents from Lion King musical performances to artwork. Well done to students whose works won awards at the Gold Coast Show: Koby Brown (Yr 10 – 2nd prize) and Jordan Narcisi (Yr 12 – 1st prize). Canungra Orchid & Foliage Show, Lions/Mountain Mates Bush Dance, Tamborine Mountain Orchestra’s 50th Anniversary concert which included some technically challenging pieces, Destination Scenic Rim, Council meetings, workshops, forums and briefings.
I attended the opening of two new Council carparks at sporting venues at Selwyn Park, Beaudesert and Coronation Park, Boonah as well as the Scenic Rim Ag Expo at Harrisville, where Mayor Tom Sharp, Jon Krause MP and Scott Buchholz MP competed against each other in the ride-on mower races. A sight to behold!
Councillors, our Mayor and CEO attended the SEQ Local Government Forum where presentation topics included cross-river rail, housing supply, the 2032 Olympic Games providing a “bright future indeed for critical infrastructure”, managing growth, housing diversity sub-targets for each SEQ Council, “cheaper to build = cheaper to buy” (really??), new homes will be in “well-serviced regions in the right locations near jobs, transport…”, population growth is outstripping infrastructure, improving liveability, SEQ’s digital future with growth in data centres, digital-driven decentralisation, “polycentric cities”, activated suburbs/townships rather than a single CBD in each region, “effortless flows”, OIA issues, and the inability to deliver major projects on time and on budget. There were too many buzz words to repeat. Must be a State Govt election looming?
