These are my own personal views. I do not purport to speak on behalf of Council. Decisions of Council are made only by majority vote, legislative authority or under authority delegated by Council.
Qld Tourism Awards 2024 – SRRC achieved a Bronze Award for Excellence in Food Tourism for our Eat Local Movement, the third successive year in which local agritourism has been recognised. Congratulations to Cedar Creek Lodges (now Tamborine Mountain Glades) for picking up two Golds – RACQ People’s Choice – accommodation and best Business Event Venue. Tamborine Mountain Distillery also took home a Bronze in the Wineries, Breweries and Distilleries category. Well done!
The Gallery Walk winery auction – contrary to the report on page 7 of the 07 November edition of T M New, Council has – and will never – engage in a “non-competitive process” in relation to disposal of assets, hence the upcoming auction. I am rapidly tiring of the misinformation being spread via quotes by those who seem to twist facts for whatever reason.
Out and about – I have attended the Tamborine Mountain Artisan Fayre and Scenic Rim Writers book launch “Of Time and Place” (both sponsored by SRRC), a Soilco site tour, Doggy Day Out (Rotary Club of Boonah), Remembrance Day service, various Council workshops, briefing and strategy sessions, Dept of Agriculture and Fisheries briefing, Chamber of Commerce info session re surveillance systems, Corporate Plan planning days and the Tamborine Mountain College graduation ceremony at HOTA. The list of achievements by TMC’s students is both lengthy and impressive – well done to those who have obtained early admission to universities for 2025. I have also visited some of the worst drainage (or lack thereof) affected properties on the Mountain. The concept of “natural flow” is an interesting one and one which requires revisiting, in my opinion.
Planning matters – local applications currently advertised for public submissions, all closing on 29 November 2024: MCU24/115 – dual occupancy (2 existing detached dwellings) at 411-425 Long Rd (to each his own – this one contains a concrete dungeon with a jail-cell door); MCU24/117 – dual occupancy 26-32 Witches Chase (potentially an additional 5br house in addition to the existing 5br house); and proposed change to Food and Drink outlet (extension to café) at 216-222 & 224-226 Log Rd and 125-127 Curtis Rd (the Grand Chameleon). I will be advocating for all future second dwelling and dual occupancy approvals to contain a condition that the properties cannot be utilised for short-term accommodation.
Approved: 105 Alpine Tce – Edges Lodges. An additional 2 lodges (3 br, 3 bathroom) to the 3 already approved. The Acceptable Outcome advocates for a cabin to have a maximum of 100m2. The proposed Lodges have an internal area of 134m2. Previous Planning & Environment Court decision relates to this overall development.
29 Yuulong Rd. boundaries for two lots altered “to make them a more regular configuration” and an access easement;
128 Curtis Rd – small shed required a setback relaxation.
Liquor Licence applications – for those who have recently contacted me, this is not a Council matter. The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) regulates liquor and wine licences and permits applications in Queensland. A Commercial other (subsidiary on-premises) licence – Queensland is required for restaurants selling liquor for on-premises consumption. Those wishing to object to the current advertised applicationrelating to 96 Main Western Rd – including the use of amplified entertainment – must do so in writing by COB 04 Dec 2024. Objections must be relevant to the four specific Grounds for Objection. Please see www.business.qld.gov.au and search “petition template” for further information.
Many people contact me in relation to non-Council matters including funerals and tree disputes. I assist where I can, if only by directing enquiries to the relevant State Govt department, QCAT or police.
