The upgrade to the Shelf Road is well underway and according to Scenic Rim Regional Council currently within the estimated budget of $11-12 million dollars.
Council’s Director Infrastructure Services James Ruprai said the upgrade is on track despite recent wet weather and storms.
“The earthworks are 30 per cent complete, the drainage blanket is complete and traffic conditions are expected to change before Christmas as the crew moves into stage two, with a full traffic switch on to the upper embankment early in 2026,” Mr Ruprai said.
He said work was expected to be completed late May 2026.
Shelf Road resident, Terry Day, who has been lobbying the council to compensate several of the properties affected by severe landslip, said it appeared huge amounts of basalt mud had been taken away and replaced with more suitable material which he hoped would provide greater stability for the new road.
