SEEKING to give back to the community, Vaughn Royer has donated five generators to the Chainsaw Warriors.
Vaughn said it was after lending his generator to a local during the tornado he realised there was a need for the community to have access to them.
“I was thinking what value could I give to the community that would be of benefit and with the cyclone and tornado a lot of people were in a situation where they didn’t have a generator,” he said.
The five digitally inverted 2.5 kw generators which will be available to lend from the showgrounds.
Guy Johnstone who leads the Chainsaw Warriors said the Tamborine Mountain Showgrounds has become the headquarters for the group.
“In the event of a disaster we don’t have anything here that can generate power,” he said.
“These generators will allow us to create a refuge centre in the event of a disaster to be able to power the showgrounds and charge up our equipment and feed people.”
“The tornado and cyclone showed us that we need to build community run facilities for our own self-sustainability,” Vaughn said.
Tamborine Mountain Show Society president Vanessa Bull said the showgrounds will also provide shelter for animals needing a safe place in an emergency.
Vaughn and Guy said now was the time for people to join and support community organisations to be prepared before the next disaster and ensure community resilience.
