GREAT weather and great bowls stamped a weekend to remember at the Tamborine Mountains Bowls Club for their recent 2025 championship finals.
The first final decided was the ladies singles, where Susie Radford made it back-to-back singles championships with a hard fought and close last end win over Julie Forsyth, 25-23.
The men’s singles was next to be played and in another nail-biter Dave Bartholomeusz prevailed on the last end be to beat a courageous Bob Kirkright 25-23.
Spectators and supporters were treated to two memorable championship deciders and more was to follow.
The last game to finish on day one of the finals was the men’s fours.
David Latchford, Mark Bujok, Jon McKelvie and Milke Power got off to a fast start and played the better bowls to secure a comfortable win over Lance Cordingley, Steve Everson, Jeff Lee and Richard Coupe.
On the Sunday the first final saw Richard Coupe and Julie Forsyth prevail over Darran Walding and Salli-Anne Walding to be crowned mixed pairs champions.
The open singles pitted Jon McKelvie against the recently crowned women’s singles champion Susie Radford with Jon grabbing the trophy.
The last event to be decided was the men’s pairs and it also proved to be a thriller.
Lance Cordingley and Bob Kirkright looked to be headed for an easy win before Garrett Rooney and Barry Chatel mounted a strong rearguard action.
In the end Cordingley and Kirkright managed to hang on for the closest of wins, 16-15.
The club now looks forward to hosting its annual Winter Fours event on Saturday, June 28, which is a prelude to the start of the pennant season which will start a week later.
