A timely reminder that bushfire season is here again, and that preparing your property now could protect your home, your neighbours’ homes, and the lives of the people who might be called on to protect these properties.
Simple steps such as clearing leaves and debris from gutters, sealing gaps in roofs and walls, enclosing spaces under decks, and checking that pumps and water systems are in good working order make all the difference. It’s about taking responsibility for ourselves as part of the community.

SES equipment boost
Perfectly timed with the start of the season, our Tamborine Mountain State Emergency Service (SES) recently received a significant boost through the Energising Queensland SES Equipment Program.
This $33,000 package includes tools such as a chainsaw, generator, powerpack, Makita tools, resuscitation models, magnetic cardholders and even a Mule Wheel Stretcher to help volunteers operate in difficult terrain.

Springtime on the Mountain
On a brighter note, September, for those of us who call Tamborine Mountain home, means Springtime on the Mountain celebrations are coming, where private gardens across the mountain open their gates to welcome visitors.
Each year I am amazed at the variety of gardens on display, from cottage gardens to native landscapes, and at the generosity of residents who share their spaces with strangers. Events like this remind me how fortunate we are to live in such a special part of the world.
Boonah mural
In keeping with nature and art, Council is inviting the Scenic Rim community to help shape a mural for the Boonah Cultural Centre, set to transform the prominent corner of Church and High Streets into a new local landmark.
Ash Taylor, Janne Birkner (Krimsone) and Jordan Bruce are three artists who have been shortlisted to develop designs capturing Boonah’s spirit, history and character. Residents can view concepts and share their preferences through an online survey, at Council venues, or at local drop-in sessions. Go to Council’s Let’s Talk website for details.
Roadworks
Meanwhile, major reconstruction works are underway with crews forming the new embankment and installing drainage systems at The Shelf Road, and earthworks for the Gallery Walk detention basin almost finished, despite July’s heavy rainfall.
These works will help slow water flow, protect local infrastructure and reduce erosion.
I know roadworks can be inconvenient, but I hope residents and visitors will see them as investments in the safety and future of our community.
School holidays
Scenic Rim Libraries are running Jurassic Jamboree, a dinosaur-themed program designed to keep kids engaged and away from their screens. From puppet shows to interactive games with Rusty the Raptor, and cartoon workshops with artist Phil Judd, there’s something for every budding palaeontologist.
The Vonda Youngman Community Centre is also hosting workshops. Children can make their own colourful felt pouch bags or learn the magical art of shadow puppetry with the Dead Puppet Society. Families can also enjoy Kids’ Flicks, such as The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, The Lost Tiger, The Canterville Ghost, Argonuts and Dog Man.
