Happy Friyay? No, just no.

I’m not sure if it is only me who is subjected to these inane emails that begin with ‘Happy Friyay’ or if it is only me who gets so annoyed by them.

But it has to stop.

This week it has gone from ‘Happy Friyay’ to ‘Happy Monyay’ then ‘Happy Toosyay’ and the final insult – ‘Happy junior Friyay’, which I believe refers to Thursday, as that is the day I received the email.

I’m writing this in the hope that I will restrain myself from responding to the emails’ writers with a string of four letter words and ending with the comment, “I assume you are a grown up, please speak like one”.

I am sure I won’t include the swearing but I think the ‘speak like a grown up’ comment might be my go to response to these.

Where are they coming from?

Mainly from public relations firms who are pitching for stories to go in the paper.

I don’t get past the ‘Happy made up word’ before leaving my desk in a huff due to the decline in the English language.

Language is of course ever changing, today we don’t speak like we did 100 or 200 years ago and there are words that have crept into every day use that didn’t exist even 20 years ago.

The days of the week, last I checked, are still the same names they have been for some time – there seems to be no reason to butcher them.

No reason except that one person thought it was cute to say ‘Friyay’ and I can almost accept that one, but there is nothing yay about the rest of the week, give it up, people.
