A MOVING speech by retired Australian Army Major Michelle de Souza gave a clear message to the Tamborine Mountain crowd – “every service counts”.

De Souza, who served in the army for 16 years, said many people think service doesn’t count if you didn’t deploy.

“To me, all service matters and counts and it shows great personal sacrifice,” she said.

The 11am service was attended by several World War II veterans, including 99 year old Beryl Soane who was a WREN in the Women’s Royal Naval Service and now lives on the Mountain.

Reverend Frank White delivered the sermon, travelling from hospital to attend the service and march.

Tamborine Mountain RSL Sub Branch President, Phill Hunter, thanked the community and volunteers for their support.
