Bushrats still hold finals hope

DESPITE losing five of their first six games of the season the president of the Bushrats rugby league team, Alick Kilsby, delivered this simple message to the club’s supporters, “Don’t give up on us yet”.

Kilsby was recently buoyed by the team’s first win of the season when they crunched one of the strongest sides in the competition, the Burleigh Bears, by 38-12.

“It’s a completely new look side from the one that won the Gold Coast Senior Second Division title last year,” he said.

“Coach, Sam Sawden, is still working on combinations and the win over the Bears shows they are ready to make a run for the semi-finals.

“We still have a number of rounds to be played so we can make it if we continue to improve.”

The Bushrats set local league fans alight last year winning the Gold Coast competition with a thrilling last minute penalty goal in front of a packed Tamborine Mountain Showgrounds crowd of more than 3500.

It was an amazing win as the club had only reformed after a break from the competition the year before.
