Tube-dwelling Spider – Segestriidae sp. Palm Grove National Park.
Repurposing of a habitable place which may or may not be made by an animal, is used by creatures in different parts of the world (tree hollows readily come to mind) and is a valid, if less evident aspect, of studying animal builders.
I had overlooked this example of repurposing.
It is of a burrow, made by God knows which creature, adapted by a tube-dwelling spider.
It is the only example of repurposing I recall filming.
The lower burrow shows how skillfully its occupant has lined it with silk. The occupant of the upper burrow has caught an ant, alerted to its proximity by trip lines.
