Tamborine Mountain’s strong rugby roots were on show at the Helensvale Hogs Rugby Union Club’s annual awards night, with three local players recognised for their achievements.
Ollie Young, Billy Norris and Abel Erasmus all came through the former Tamborine Mountain Rugby Club, the Highlanders, before the club folded 3 years ago.
The trio have since made Helensvale their home club, continuing a tradition of local talent contributing to the Gold Coast rugby scene.
At the awards night, Ollie and Billy each received Player of the Year honours in their divisions, while Abel was presented with the Coaches Award, recognising his dedication and development throughout the season.
The Helensvale Hogs, founded in 1987, are regarded as a cornerstone of Gold Coast Rugby Union.
For many young players from Tamborine Mountain, the Hogs have become the closest option to continue their rugby journey since the closure of the Highlanders.
With years of junior experience already behind them, Ollie, Billy and Abel have emerged as stand-outs among their peers, earning respect not just within their club but also from the wider rugby community.
The awards reflect both the strength of the Helensvale program and the lasting influence of Tamborine Mountain’s sporting culture.
