Readers of Tamborine Mountain News are invited to take part in a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening and sustaining the future of local journalism.
The Local & Independent News Association (LINA) launches its ‘Our News, Your Voice’ campaign in the first week of May, encouraging communities across Australia to reflect on the value of trusted, independent local news – and to help support it.
Tamborine Mountain News editor, Keer Moriarty, said the campaign not only celebrates the role of local publications but also serves as an important fundraising role, helping independent news outlets continue their work in the face of rising costs and a rapidly changing media landscape.
“Funds raised will go towards employing journalists, ensuring communities like Tamborine Mountain and Tamborine have access to reliable, locally focused reporting,” Ms Moriarty said.
“Publications such as Tamborine Mountain News play a vital role in keeping communities informed, connected and heard.”
“Over the past two years we have supported the community by reporting on council decisions and community events as well as sharing local achievements and challenges.”
Throughout the campaign week, which includes World Press Day on Sunday May 3, LINA is calling on readers to reflect on what local news means to them and to support it in whatever way they can including contributing financially if they are able.
