The Men’s Singles semi-final between Barry Chatel and David Free delivered a thrilling contest on Thursday, April 23, with Chatel taking early control before Free mounted a spirited comeback to level the scores at 16-all.
With spectators anticipating another close finish, Chatel responded under pressure, lifting his game in the closing stages to secure victory and book his place in the blue-ribbon final on Saturday, May 16.
Best wishes are extended to Chatel and Lance ahead of the decider.
The club will also host a celebration on May 16 from 11am to recognise its bowlers following a strong showing in the District Sevens competition, with members encouraged to attend in acknowledgement of the collective effort behind the success.
Before then, the Men’s Pairs Championship final is expected to be played, with Dave Bartholomeusz and Darran Walding set to face Barry Chatel and Ray Weavers. In the Mixed Pairs, Dave and Kelly Bartholomeusz will meet Richard Coupe and Julie Forsyth in the final after Jeff and Vicki Lee were forced to withdraw due to injury.
Attention has also turned to upcoming events, with the club preparing to report on the Dr John Vance Memorial Pairs tournament on May 2, supported by Tamborine Mountain Optometrists, and the Lions Mountain Mates Buddy Bowls Day on May 9, supported by Life Member Leonie Rennie.
Bowls Queensland Gold Coast District President Brian Marshall is expected to attend the Buddy Bowls day, showing support for the club’s Mountain Mates initiative.
