TAMBORINE Mountain RSL Sub Branch held its annual Mid Winter Lunch on Thursday July 24 at Club Tamborine.
The guests were local members, widows and friends, together with special guests, including representatives of our local Cadets.
As is their forte, the Club went to great lengths, not only for a delicious meal, beautiful table setting and their usual excellent and friendly service which instilled the party atmosphere.
The President was delighted to welcome the Gold Coast District President Pat Fairon and Barbara Fairon, the newly installed State Vice President, our own member, Brigadier Arran Hassell CSC, together with our new Honorary Solicitor, Ian MacAllan and Katrina.
District President Fairon informed those present that the Gold Coast District had held their annual Mid Winter Lunch on the previous day and on that occasion our local President, Phillip Hunter, had been awarded the Life Membership of RSL – of whom only 70+ members throughout the District hold that honour.
This was in recognition of Phillip’s 33 years of continuous service as member, treasurer and 10 years as President.
State Vice President Hassell told of his learning curve in his new role and was delighted that his first official function was with his own sub-branch.
He stated that RSL Queensland was blessed in its leaders with Stephen Day, State President and Rob Skoda, CEO.
He added that due to the RSL Dream Home (Art Union) the Qld RSL was able to invest in lifesaving activities for veterans. He thanked all those who contributed to this valuable cause.
His future hope for the RSL is that it still survives 50 – 100 years from now, still commemorating ANZAC Day and that the younger service members continue to join and lead the way to the future.
Lucky door prizes were won by the fortunate few and the lunch ended with happy memories and full bellies.
