I filmed the nest over a four week period, during which it underwent a remarkable transformation.
The initial pile of debris was substantial, then became huge, and eventually all but vanished, having probably been blown away by the wind.
The location of the entrance also changed.
The Atlas of Living Australia occurrence records for the species reveal that most sightings were in Queensland, mainly along the length of its eastern coast, with an isolated sighting in New South Wales.
It is intriguing to contemplate what the immense pile of debris in the photo, represents within the stump, in the form of passages and chambers.
