Mystery Beetle – Cerambycidae sp. Joalah National Park.
The beetle is one of the most memorable and intriguing insects I have ever seen and I wish that it could have been identified.
It puzzled the Queensland Museum expert who sent the video frame to a colleague who specializes in Cermbycidae.
He suggested it might belong to the family Meloidae, blister beetles.
None of the google images of Australian blister beetles matched the one in the video, particularly the red on the upper legs.
They, the wings and thorax contrast dramatically with the inky black of the abdomen and antennae.
The body length was about 4-5 cm.
