What happens when Tamborine Mountain receives a huge council grant and the whole community gets to decide how to spend it?
If you’ve ever found yourself scrolling the Tamborine Mountain Community Facebook page, you might have a pretty good idea!
Mountain Mates, in collaboration with Tamborine Mountain Little Theatre, are delighted to present The Great Mountain Meeting, a brand-new community comedy written and directed by Chookas’ founder and director, Caitlin Yeager.
Inspired by the colourful characters, passionate debates and unique spirit of mountain life, the show sees the town gather for one unforgettable meeting where everyone has an opinion.
Expect weather-controlling inventions, Yowie hunters, synchronised swimmers, dog shows, anti-tourism campaigns and plenty of hilariously familiar moments.
While the production playfully celebrates the quirks of mountain life, it is ultimately a cheeky love letter to the vibrant community that makes Tamborine Mountain such a special place to live.
Performed by the Mountain Mates, an inclusive group of locals with disability, the production combines comedy, physical theatre and original storytelling in a celebration of creativity, inclusion and community.
The Great Mountain Meeting has been funded through the Scenic Rim Regional Council Community Grants Program, which supports projects that strengthen community connections and celebrate local creativity.
Performances will be held at the Zamia Theatre on Friday August 28 at 7.30 pm and Saturday August 29 at 2.30 pm.
Tickets are $20 ($18 concession, Companion Cards free), with cabaret seating and audiences encouraged to BYO snacks and drinks.
Come along, have a laugh, and see if you recognise a few familiar mountain characters along the way.
