THERE were plenty of smiles and laughter as the Mountain Mates along with family and friends took to the dance floor for their second annual bush dance.
After four weekends of practicing their moves they danced their way through some fun dances including the ‘chicken dance’, ‘Circassian circle’, ‘turkey in the straw’ and the ‘heel and toe polka’, with music provided by Good Tunes band from Brisbane.
About 130 people filled the Vonda Youngman Community Centre, ranging in age from babies through to 80.
The night was opened by Mayor Tom Sharp who paid tribute to the group’s ethos and contribution to the Scenic Rim community.
Lions Mountain Mates facilitator Janis Bailey thanked the local businesses who had been incredibly supportive of the evening providing generous prizes for the raffle and silent auction as well as Scenic Rim Regional Council for their support.
“Volunteer Linda Simister and Mountain Mate Keegan Jones led the line dance ‘We are Family’ towards the end emphasising how the group is indeed a ‘second family’ for Mates and volunteers alike,” Janis said.
The event raises money for Mountain Mates 2025-26 activities and other youth and disability causes.
