Our big news this week is the outstanding performance of our champion Ladies Fours team at the District Club Champion of Champions event, held at Robina Bowls Club on July 4 and 5.
The team recorded a convincing first-round victory over the strong Robina side.
Perhaps not expecting to return for a second day, our ladies and their supporters were delighted with the win and came back in force on Sunday for another outstanding contest.
Their second-round opponents were the highly regarded Club Musgrave champions.
Players and supporters from both clubs were treated to a wonderful display of sportsmanship and high-quality bowls.
The match wasn’t decided until the final end, with the Musgrave Pelicans claiming a one-shot victory to progress to the third round.
Despite the narrow loss, our Taipans can be proud of a highly competitive and entertaining performance against quality opposition, with spectators captivated throughout the match. Congratulations to our ladies on a result the entire club can be proud of.
Our Men’s Fours drew one of the competition favourites in the opening round of the Champion of Champions.
Facing a Tweed Heads side featuring current, former and fringe Australian representatives proved a bridge too far, but the experience gained was invaluable.
It is also pleasing to note that Tamborine Mountain Bowls Club entered all seven Club Champion of Champions events this year – the first time anyone can recall the club achieving this milestone.

In the second round of the local derby for the Can-Tam Shield, our Taipans took a healthy lead into the day but were unable to hold off a determined Canungra comeback, with the Canungra Owls retaining the shield.
Dare we say it was a sign of things to come for the State of Origin?
A strong contingent of Taipans, including our number one membership holder and Bowls Queensland and District President, Brian Marshall, attended Beaudesert Bowls Club’s 90th birthday celebrations.
As always, we enjoyed excellent hospitality, great company and quality bowls.
