Gallery Walk – Main Roads Update
Following a pedestrian accident earlier this year, at my urging Main Roads fixed the damaged traffic island shortly thereafter. I also requested Main Roads to assess if anything could be done to improve safety on Gallery Walk. While it is a State-controlled road, in response Main Roads largely pointed to Council’s role in managing parking and pedestrian movements – noting that Council has informed Main Roads of two additional pedestrian crossings being included in Council’s planned improvement projects for Gallery Walk. With these plans on foot, Main Roads is of the view “it would not be appropriate to proceed” with further planning regarding safety of vulnerable users. I also raised the issue of visibility at the roundabout at the northern end of Gallery Walk. In reply, Main Roads maintains the tree on this roundabout does not impact visibility requirements, but some vegetation requires trimming to prevent partial obstruction.
Worst 6 months of hospital ramping in Queensland’s history
I hear concerns of locals about access to health services, and note with dire concern the fact that in the June quarter across Queensland nearly half (44.7%) of patients were not admitted to hospital from ambulances within recommended timeframes (the Gold Coast University Hospital is included in this data). This is a danger to those taken to hospital, and also to those who cannot get an ambulance in a timely fashion if units are “ramped” at hospitals. In early 2015, this rate was 15%. Under this nearly 10 year old Labor Government, our health system has continually deteriorated. There has been a lack of planning to expand capacity. Our healthcare professionals are just that – hard working professionals – but they have been let down by the system, as have Queenslanders.
Well done Bushrats Rugby League Club
It was a hard fought win for the Bushrats last Saturday, getting the win 26-22 despite being one player down for the entire second half. Tough, gritty and gutsy – well done. And congratulations to the Club on hosting, for the first time, a Queensland Cup round between Burleigh and Souths-Logan. Broadcast on the QRL website, this type of events puts Tamborine Mountain on the sporting map and highlights the great work of this club.
