A MOVE to relocate from the Green Mountains section of Lamington Park to Canungra more than seven years ago was the best thing popular tourism venture Mountview Alpaca Farm could have ever done.
After 20 years at the previous location it was the damage caused when a Cyclone Debbie tore through the area that prompted the move by owners Steve and Jenny Pack.
It wasn’t just relocating alone that was successful, it was the decision to move to a property alongside O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards that was the masterstroke.
It meant families going to the vineyard could now experience a double bonus with the popular Alpacas at the doorstep for the kids while the parents could enjoy a local wine and cheese at the vineyard.
Visitors to Mountview Alpaca Farm, which is just a short six minute drive from the Canungra Village, has been recognised by Tourism Queensland as a leader in a new wave of tourism experiences by offering true farm animal interactions.
These include meeting an alpaca, feeding the alpacas, walking an alpaca and even picnicking with an alpaca.
While Steve and Jenny also run alpacas at two other locations they have around 50 at their tourist attraction.
Their main farm also caters for school groups and NDIS clients with open flat grounds (wheelchair friendly) and plenty of food options from a gourmet picnic hamper to pizzas, Devonshire tea and wine/cheese deals.
Another opportunity is to book a cottage at Mountview Alpaca Farm and stay the night with the family.
Many families have taken up this opportunity finding the Farmhouse to be a the perfect place to relax and unwind.
The cottage is where most of the alpacas at Mountview Alpaca Farm were born and they have “mowed the grass” there on many occasions.
It was tastefully renovated in 2023 and features a spacious outdoor deck for entertaining and can accommodate up to seven people.
It sits on a country style five acre block with alpacas and chickens fossicking nearby to keep the kids entertained while you enjoy the peace and quiet.
Mountview Alpaca Farm also has a popular unique alpaca gift shop.
