As Scenic Rim’s Portfolio Councillor for Community, Arts and Culture, it was my honour to officially open Council’s final exhibition of the year, Gift Wrapped 2024, at The Centre Beaudesert.

This is a fabulous exhibition of more than 300 beautiful and unique items by 31 artists and artisans from the Scenic Rim and further afield and, as everything is for sale, there’s no shortage of Christmas gift-giving ideas.

Thank you to everyone who attended the exhibition opening and to the artists who were on hand to discuss their works.

Gift Wrapped 2024 is a fitting finale to what has been a tremendously successful year for Council’s cultural program and our Scenic Rim creative community.

This free exhibition runs until Saturday December 14, so be sure to catch it before it closes.

It was wonderful to see the wide range of projects supported in the first round of Council’s 2024-2025 Community Grants Program.

Thirty-two community groups across the Scenic Rim will share in more than $246,800 in Council grants including the Tamborine Mountain Pickleball Association, Tamborine Mountain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, U3A Tamborine Mountain, Tamborine Pony Club, Tamborine Equestrian Group, Anglican Parish of Tamborine Mountain, Tamborine Mountain AH&I Society and Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens.

Through the work of dedicated and hard-working volunteers, all of these organisations add enormous value to our local community and the events and projects they put forward for grant funding were considered well worthy of Council’s support.

The Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival was among the events supported in this funding round and my congratulations to everyone involved in the success of the 2024 scarecrow trail. Once again, this highlighted the creativity of our community and what can be done with repurposing and reusing unwanted items.

In the lead up to Christmas, the Garage Sale Trail on 9 and 10 November and 16 and 17 November is a great opportunity to clear out and cash in and find a new home for unwanted items without consigning them to landfill.

A number of Tamborine Mountain residents have registered their garage sales. See Council’s website scenicrim.qld.gov.au/homepage/287/garage-sale-trail for details.
