Well done to the Tamborine Mountain Garden Club for taking the initiative to beautify Gallery Walk.
Some shopfronts are looking more than a little bedraggled and perhaps landlords might put their hands in their pockets to improve the appearance of their properties.
Across the Mountain, wild tobacco is in bloom and setting seeds.
Please remove these plants from your property and if you are not able to do so, remove the flowers and seed heads and place them in plastic bags in the sun.
The largest out of control asparagus fern infestation on Long Road needs removal by the property owner.
The growth which now extends onto the footpath will be removed by Council.
The dingo/wild dog issue
The proposal to establish a Dingo Education Centre on the Mountain would seem to be something of an over-reaction, given there is one problem animal. Attempts to capture this animal continue.
Replacement and news works and repairs –
Library repair work continues on the roof restoration with internal refurbishment scheduled to occur very soon.
The replacement Dapsang Drive toilet amenities block replacement is nearing completion and the new toilet/amenities block at Lions Park is due to commence in the first half of the new financial year.
Out and about
The highlight of the past fortnight was the Show. Well done to the committee and volunteers who delivered a great day – and made a profit!
I spent the day on the admissions gate and supervising the snow dome activity, followed by the clean-up on Sunday morning.
I have provided council with my comments in relation to the investigation report into the Gallery Walk Carpark (Mayor Tom Sharp has previously stated this report will be publicly released – currently awaiting responses from Council’s Executive Leadership Team).
I attended Council’s Audit and Risk Committee meeting, the Lions Club changeover luncheon (at my expense), Council’s Ordinary Meeting on June 24, budget sessions, two portfolio briefings, and a strategy workshop.
After hours activities included a Disaster Group Meeting, Tamborine Mountain Advisory Group meeting, and three Budget Information Sessions (Beaudesert, Boonah and Tamborine Mountain). Thank you to the local residents who attended and raised their issues which included the Gallery Walk carpark, provision and upgrade of footpaths, the Alpine Terrace footpath and handrail, pedestrian crossings, TMSA funding, and inadequate parking on Main Street. The proposed incinerator at Bromelton is not a Council project. Attendees also provided positive feedback re our local library staff and the excellent and friendly service they provide.
2026-2027 SRRC Budget – at the time of writing, the Special Meeting for the Budget Vote has been announced for Wednesday July 1, 2026.
Stage 2 Public Transport submission – thankyou to Neil Smith (Rotary e-Club of NextGen) for his renewed efforts to further enhance and expand the 50c fare public transport service from/to Tamborine Mountain to Helensvale currently operating Monday to Friday. The Mayor and I have provided letters of support for this resident-initiated project.
New Development Application – MCU26/064 – 130 Long Rd (Gallery Walk) – Code assessable – Community use (War Museum). Seems an odd location for a war museum but what would I know?
Did you know? (I didn’t!). – Council offers a free infirm service for bin collection. This is where the driver of the truck will get out and collect the bins from the house, bring them to the kerb to empty and then return the bin to the house. All that is required to avail yourself of this service is a doctor’s certificate stating that the resident can no longer bring their bins out.
