The Tamborine Mountain State School P&C Association coffee shop will undergo vital repairs and upgrades thanks to a grant from the Queensland Government Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

The $99,000 grant will enable much-needed improvements to the infrastructure ensuring the continued operation of the coffee shop in the carpark, which raises essential funds for a range of school programs.

Repairs and upgrades will include roof restoration and the replacement of the water tank to ensure effective rainwater catchment in an area without town water access, insulation for the roof and walls to create a safer working environment and protect equipment from extreme heat and frost, refitting the kitchen with stainless steel benches and upgrading dry food storage to improve ergonomic safety and food handling standards.

Fencing will also be installed around the communal area to create a safe environment for child-focused community events and PVC outdoor blinds to allow for undercover space for all weather conditions.

Business Operations Manager Claire Aberdeen said beyond serving the school, the coffee shop plays a key role in community engagement.

“It is a hub for monthly markets and community fundraiser BBQs, through which the TMSS P&C has raised significant funds for local groups over the last three years,” she said.

“The facility is also woven into the fabric of the school’s educational offerings, hosting external speakers and providing a space for out-of-classroom learning. Additionally, a free weekly playgroup for parents and carers of young children benefits from the upgraded facilities, offering a safer and more enjoyable environment for outdoor play.”

Claire said the TMSS P&C is excited to work closely with local businesses throughout the upgrade process and beyond.

“We welcome the entire Tamborine Mountain community to visit the newly renovated space, where they can enjoy our improved facilities and continue supporting the fundraising efforts that benefit both the school and local groups,” she said.

“The TMSS P&C coffee shop’s improvements will strengthen community ties, support school programs, and provide an enhanced space for both educational and recreational activities.”

Claire said the grant would not only ensure the sustainability of this key fundraising business, but also enrich the community for years to come.
