Insurance Company Delays Not Good Enough

Last month in Parliament I raised the issue of insurance claims from the Christmas Day storms not been resolved yet, 9 months on. At time of writing this, $449 million in claims out of $1.44 billion made were outstanding. I have heard numerous examples of the impact this is having, including where families are living in far from ideal conditions in homes at risk of further damage if there are further weather events. While builder/contractor shortages also mean the potential for delays in getting repairs or reconstruction underway, the process begins with getting an insurance claim settled. I will be writing to the Insurance Council to urge them, as a peak body, to take all steps possible to expedite the claims process.

LNP Commitment For National Parks

Tamborine Mountain has Queensland’s first National Park, and the Scenic Rim some of Queensland’s best! The LNP has announced that, if elected in October, it will implement a major boost to rangers and environmental management of the National Park estate. The More Rangers, Better Neighbours policy includes an additional 150 park rangers to focus on invasive species management and better preserve Queensland’s natural environment. As many National Parks in our region border residential areas and farms, and especially after the bushfire disasters of 2019, I know how important it is for National Parks to be good neighbours by minimising bushfire risk and the spread of pests.

Tamborine Mountain Botanical Gardens

Last Saturday, these gardens – a wonderful place for locals to visit and probably the biggest drawcard for tourists to Tamborine Mountain – re-opened after suffering horrific damage during the Christmas Day storms. They look terrific – better than ever in fact! Thank you to Council, contractors who worked on clean up and repairs – but most of all the many volunteers who put in countless hours to bring about this re-opening. Well done on restoring this botanical jewel of Tamborine Mountain!
