IN A thrilling development for local sports, Tamborine Mountain Basketball (Wolves) has proudly announced that two of its female stars have ascended to the North Gold Coast Seahawks’ Under 14 girls representative teams in March of this year.
This achievement marks their debut in representative basketball, a testament to their outstanding work ethic and the robust training support provided by the Wolves.
Jasmine DeSilva, a standout athlete and student at Tamborine Mountain College, clinched a position on the Division 1 team, exemplifying her relentless work ethic and unwavering commitment to basketball.
“Jasmine is a defensive powerhouse for us, full of determination and competitive spirit,” said Vicki Sams, Jasmine’s U14 Division 1 North Gold Coast Seahawks coach.
“She has a strong foundation of skills but her secret weapon is her mind. Her coachability and mental fortitude make her a prime candidate for top-level play and we couldn’t be happier that she decided to try-out. I couldn’t imagine our team without her.”
Tamborine Mountain State High School Student, Poppy Jones’ infectious positivity and growing competitive spirit have landed her a well-deserved spot on the Division 2 team.
Coach Vicki spotted her playing at her Wolves club game and encouraged her to try-out.
“Poppy has something special,” said Vicki.
“Her positivity makes her an excellent teammate and is a testament to the values that the Wolves’ program is cultivating. I’m excited to see where she takes this.”
With the regular season drawing to a close and the playoffs on the horizon, excitement lies ahead at the end of June when these athletes will compete at the State Championships.
