Have your say on sport and recreation plan

THERE is a huge amount of positive momentum building in the community when it comes to future sport and recreation facilities for locals, say board members of the Tamborine Mountain Sports Association (TMSA).

TMSA President, Mick Angus, has been working with his board and the local community on a seven-stage master plan for the Long Road precinct for several years. He said now was the time to start turning those plans into a reality.

“Importantly, Scenic Rim Regional Council is developing its own Draft Sport and Recreation Plan for 2024-2034, which strategically aligns perfectly into the TMSA’s own master plan,” said Mick.

“We have recently pulled together a new board of directors for TMSA who will bring a renewed energy and fresh perspective on the master plan.”

“The TMSA is ready to start working closely with Council, our clubs, local businesses and other sections of our community to deliver on better sporting infrastructure for our mountain.”

Mr Angus said the Long Road Sports Centre was more to the Tamborine Mountain community than a location for kids to play sport.

“It’s not only home for 11 sporting clubs with over 1000 members,” he said.

“When disaster strikes, like it did over the Christmas-New Year break, it’s a vital resource and home base for emergency services.”

TMSA General Manager, Adam Chanter, said it was critical for the Tamborine Mountain community to have their say on Council’s draft sports strategy before the consultation period closes on April 30.

“Council’s sports strategy is really important for our community because it provides a framework for infrastructure development in our region,” he said.

“There’s currently no single sporting clubroom on Tamborine Mountain for the growing number of sport and recreation groups that live here.

“Completing the survey is the community’s way of helping shape that framework to seek funding from state and federal bodies, so we can turn our master plan into a reality for current and future generations of Tamborine Mountain locals.”
