Tamborine Mountain News editor, Keer Moriarty is on a mission to preserve the history of the mountain’s newspaper.

Ms Moriarty said she is concerned about losing much of the history contained in the pages of the Tamborine Mountain News, which has been publishing under different owners since 1958.

“We have been fortunate to secure some funding through a Google project to digitise old hisorical copies of the newspaper, but what we need now is to find more copies, especially the older copies,” she said.

Previous editor Andrew Nagy has contributed digital copies of the Tamborine Mountain News and Scenic News from 2016 to 2023, and a number of hard copies of editions from the 1980s and 1990s were donated to the newspaper office last year.

“We are looking for older copies of the paper so we can scan them and create online flipbooks on our website that can be accessed by readers,” Ms Moriarty said.

“We have a contractor, Carmelle Gricks, scanning the older copies in now and it would be great to find some of the original copies that were produced by Tamborine Mountain Progress Association.”

If anyone is collecting copies of the paper, they don’t need to worry about losing their collection.

Copies will be scanned and returned to the owners after scanning.

It is hoped the project will be completed by June 30, 2026, however it will be dependent on

“Looking at the copies we have obtained and the history in those, I feel it would be such a shame to lose that information about the mountain and surrounding areas.

Anyone who has copies of the paper they would be happy to have scanned, or would like to know more, can contact Ms Moriarty on 0407 671 286 or email news@tmnews.com.au.
