The inaugural Gold Coast District Games Directors Day for the newly combined men’s and ladies’ districts was held on Sunday, November 2, drawing entries from across the Gold Coast region.
Dawn Forrest presented the inaugural trophy to Bob Kirkright.
According to organisers, “everyone played amazing, and great laughs were had”, indicating strong enthusiasm for the new combined event.
The victory was a notable moment for Club Tamborine, with the district’s smallest club taking out the first-ever Games Directors Day title – along with the associated prizemoney.
Bowls Gold Coast Tweed also staged an Open Novice Triples tournament at Southport Bowls Club on Sunday, November 9.
Two of the 28 teams were from the Taipans, again demonstrating strong support from one of the district’s smallest clubs.
Entries have since opened for the District Ladies Singles competition in December, with Club Tamborine members expected to feature.
Early December will also include the club’s Women in Bowls afternoon and Presentation Day.
While the Taipans had not been performing at their best in the Summer Nines competition, members were continuing to build valuable experience.
A focused coaching session with Jackaroo international Matt Lucas was held on November 23, with the club using the insights gained to help make an impact on the Seven’s competition taking place in the new year.
