CALANTHE Poetry was delighted to present its first Life Membership award recently.
Margy Rose has been involved in Calanthe Poetry since the year dot – which for Calanthe is 2015/2016, when there were two seasons of ‘Hearts Ablaze!’, a play about Judith Wright.
In Hearts Ablaze! Margy played ‘older Judith’ alongside fellow actors Linda Simister, Will Bligh and Kevin Doodney.
This was followed by Calanthe’s first ‘Poets@’ event, at what was then Clancy’s and is now Baileys’ Irish Bar and Restaurant, in July 2016.
Calanthe Poetry grew out of those events, earning its slogan as ‘A Community of Poetry Lovers’, so it seemed fitting to make the presentation exactly eight years later, at a merry , well-attended poetry night at Baileys’.
Margy has MC’d, sung at and helped organise so many Calanthe events and initiatives, championing the cause of poetry on the Mountain.
Margy has worked within Calanthe in the same way she has worked with other community groups, as a singer, musician, teacher and creative spark to ignite the talent of others.
She is inclusive and self-effacing, and brings her uniquely joyful and calm spirit, as well as her sublime talent, to every event.
