New application MCU24/174 for a Retirement Facility at 24-34 Macdonnell Rd (the white plastic fence property). 44x2br and 15 three bedroom dwellings on lots ranging from 242m2 to 288m2. Plus a small central facilities centre. More details to become available as Council uploads the application documents. This is likely to be a contentious application given the proposed density, the likes of which have not yet been seen on the Mountain.
Also another application for six tourist cabins MCU24/178 at 2 School Road (opposite the school).
Australia Day citizenship ceremony held at Beaudesert – the Scenic Rim welcomed 22 new Australian citizens, four of whom have made the Mountain home. They have come from varied original homelands: Iran, Poland, UK and Finland. Welcome aboard! Congratulations also to the recipients of the SRRC Australia Day Awards and thank you for those in our community who were nominated and who give freely of their time to volunteer. Anyone considering becoming a volunteer can contact me. Even an hour or so a week helps.
I attended Australia Day celebrations at the Baitul -masoor Mosque at the invitation of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. In a past life I was a volunteer ESL tutor for a member of their community through Logan TAFE. Good to see such a passionate embrace of Australia Day and what it means to people from varied walks of life, ethnicities and religious beliefs.
QLD State Rowing Championships were held at Wyaralong Dam and for the first time in many years – thanks to a more harmonious and balanced current Scenic Rim Council – all three levels of Government are working well together.
A joint media release was issued which highlighted the region’s united push for the 2032 Olympic Games rowing events to be held here.
Rockhampton has been mooted in the media as a potential alternate venue, however Wyaralong does not have any crocodiles – perhaps we need some excitement to add to our venue to make it more “competitive”?
The Tamborine Mountain Relays event on Australia Day was a great collaborative success by various groups and sporting organisations.
The event was very well attended and a big thankyou to the TMSA for hosting the event at the Long Road Sports Complex.
Council is currently considering nominations for Masterplan Committees for Canungra, Kalbar and Kooralbyn.
There is also a push from within our local community for a Masterplan.
Local roads of regional significance were identified and considered at Council’s first Ordinary Meeting of the year on January 29, 2025.
Local roads included are (parts of) Alpine Terrace, Long Road, School Road, Beacon Road and Hartley Road.
