Owner Kristy Steward built the boutique on a simple idea: shoes should feel good and look good.
After moving to the mountain in 2020, she noticed locals struggled to find decent shoes without having to travel off the mountain.
With a background in dance and a personal need for supportive footwear, she set out to find designs that were orthotic-friendly – but not plain or predictable.
“I wanted shoes with soft footbeds, non-slip soles and proper support,” she said.
“But they also had to be fun, groovy and beautifully made. People shouldn’t feel like comfort means giving up on style.”
Each pair is hand-picked with intention, with Kristy continually adding to her carefully curated, boutique collection.
The focus is on quality leather, long-lasting soles and clever European craftsmanship.
Many styles are practical for the mountain’s lifestyle, durable soles for red mud, non-fussy leather that’s easy to wipe clean, and all-terrain boots that suit a day on property just as well as a trip to Gallery Walk or out to dinner.
But what truly defines That Shoe Shop is its personalised service.
Kristy offers one-on-one shoe fittings, including specialised fittings for weddings, helping brides, bridal parties and guests find footwear that’s comfortable, stylish and memorable.
She spends time guiding customers of all ages, from teenagers to stylish 90-year-olds, helping them discover shoes that match their needs, personality and lifestyle.
“Some people walk in not sure what they’re looking for,” she said.
“Once we find the right pair, they feel good. Then suddenly they’re open to colour, to leather, to something different. It’s about comfort, confidence and enjoying what you wear.”
