Tamborine Mountain News will welcome a revamped dining and retail section of the newspaper in 2026, with Around the Mountain featuring local businesses and a beautifully designed map by local artist Paula Peeters.
The new section will also include a full page editorial for local businesses written by journalist Guy Hazlewood and photographs by award-winning photographer Katie O’Brien.
Paula’s art includes magnets, postcards and tea towels with beautiful illustrations of native birds and wildlife and which are stocked at Under the Greenwood Tree and Canungra Books and Art.
Newspaper Editor Keer Moriarty and Graphic Designer Kate Cahill were keen to invite Paula to design the map after seeing her work.
“To get some ideas about which plants and animals to draw, I reached out to Tamborine Mountain locals Janene Gardner from Under the Greenwood Tree, nature enthusiast Felix Cehak and Tamborine Mountain Landcare President Judith Roland,” said Ms Peeters, who lives on Beechmont.
“I asked them what species were special to Tamborine Mountain, or said ‘Tamborine Mountain’ to them.
“They all gave me lots of ideas, of which I picked a few species.”
The result will be a stunning feature of the mountain which will appeal to locals and visitors alike.
Ms Moriarty said she is excited about the redesign of this part of the paper which will add visual appeal and more comprehensive information about the businesses advertising in Around the Mountain.
“Kate has put a lot of work into the new design so that we can showcase the wonderful businesses on the mountain in their best light,” she said.
“I’ve seen the preview of the design which will launch in the January 15, 2026 edition.
“The combination of Paula’s art, Katie’s photos, Guy’s journalistic skills and Kate’s design have brought new life to this section and I’m sure people will look forward to knowing more about these wonderful local businesses.”
