TAMBORINE Mountain Glades will be carrying the hopes of Queensland next month as it competes as a finalist for two major titles at the Australian Tourism awards.
Finalists from all states will be vying for the national honours which will be announced at the Adelaide Convention Centre on March 21.
Tamborine Mountain Glades won the big double at the Qld tourism awards late last year taking the titles of the RACQ People’s Choice Award for Accommodation as well as taking the Gold for Best Business Event Venue in the state.
The local venue was purchased by Bob and Judi Minikin 25 years ago, and it was the start of a tourism love affair that changed their lives and provided a major boost for local tourism in the Scenic Rim.
Almost a generation later, more than five million people from all over Australia and across the globe have experienced the property – Tamborine Mountain Glades and Thunderbird Park – and over 2,000 weddings have been staged on the grounds.
Over 114 hectares, Tamborine Mountain Glades is home to one of the country’s leading adventure playgrounds, and a full range of accommodation offerings from on-trend rooms to five-star glamping and luxe lodges, all neighbouring the world famous Tamborine National Park in the Scenic Rim.
The popularity of the estate sees it welcome more than 200,000 people every year.
Judi Minnikin said winning the prestigious Queensland People’s Choice Award was an absolute surprise.
“To be selected by the people across all 31 categories in Queensland is beyond humbling,” she said.
The Scenic Rim region picked up two Bronze awards as well at the Qld finals – the Tamborine Mountain Distillery for Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries and Scenic Rim Eat Local Movement for Excellence in Food Tourism.
