One minute we were sitting quietly in our open sided land cruiser observing lions stalking their prey and the next minute we were off racing over the Mara following the instinct of our guide to see giraffe, elephant and hopefully a glimpse of a leopard.
At the crest of the hill, we stop for sundowners (drinks and nibbles) overlooking the magnificent plains of Africa.
I warn everyone how magical a safari in Africa is and how addictive … you will feel her willing you to return long after you are back in Australia.
South Africa offers such a range of experiences – safari lodges and wonderful wildlife; trips to the southern cape of the continent; pottering around world renowned wineries, luxury train journeys cross the country and add on a visit to spectacular Victoria Falls or the less visited lodges in the Okavango Delta of Botswana.
Join me in 2027 as I take a small group to Kenya and Tanzania with the option to add an extraordinary few days to see the gorillas in the natural habitat, truly one of the most wonderful experiences of my life.
Bench Africa will be at Travelling Places on Tuesday July 14 to present to you all things Africa, these wonderful specialists offer a wide range of options including independent travel, small group journeys and even a river cruise.
Also joining us will be Regent Seven Seas who specialise in luxury cruising.
Last year saw me in Sitka, Alaska, a less visited hidden gem, once colonised by the Russians, their influence still lingers.
Sailing along the inside passage with the vast continent of North America and the Rocky Mountains on one side we wove through small islands and inlets with whales breaching, otters sunning themselves to reach our destination Vancouver.
A couple of years ago saw me sailing into the harbour of Malta, glowing golden in the morning sun, one can only imagine what the crusaders thought as they entered this ancient walled town.
Regent Seven Seas takes you on global journeys in comfort and style.
What I love is that everything is included – wonderful shore excursions that bring your ports to life, all meals and beverages and tipping for the excellent crew onboard.
